Retreats & Travel

About Retreats at Ocamora

Retreats at Ocamora are guided by seasoned teachers and wisdom holders in a unique and memorable natural setting near the historic village of Ocate, New Mexico. Week-long retreat offerings have included programs focused on traditional contemplative practice, Meditation and Creativity, EcoPsychology, Women’s Leadership, Depth Psychology, Archetypal Dreamwork, Women’s Healing Intensives, Grof® Legacy Project events, Indigenous Mycelium Gathering (2025) and many more since 1982.

Ocamora Retreat Season

Ocamora’s seasonal programming spans the warm months of summer typically from early June through mid-September. Ocamora is ideally suited for small, intimate learning communities of 12-24 participants. Ocamora offers an average of eight residential programs per season.

Ocamora is on private property with the property owners in residence. Off season Ocamora is not available for visitation or public camping (RV, van, car, or tent). At present Ocamora is not available for individual/private retreats, weddings, or family reunions.

Retreat Information and Registration are Directly with Retreat Leaders
For more information about a retreat or to register, contact the Retreat Leader. Ocamora offers Retreat Leaders and their groups exclusive use of The Place. Rental of the facility includes a variety of guest accommodations; communal indoor spaces for contemplative practice, group work, and art making; beautifully groomed outdoor meeting spaces; private access to the greater landscape; and delicious buffet meals.

Each Retreat Leader Independently Organizes and Manages Their Own Retreat
Retreat Leaders craft their own publicity, handle registration and payment, correspond with registered participants, and help to organize shared transportation. If you are interested in attending a retreat you see listed and available, please contact the Retreat Leader with all questions and to register. Please do not contact Ocamora. See 2026 Retreats.

Vetted Retreat Leaders
Ocamora enjoys trusted and long-term relationships with many of the Retreat Leaders. Their programs and participants are well-aligned with the unconventional setting and the ethos of Ocamora. Some groups are invitational, meet annually and are closed to the public. If you are interested in the possibility of bringing a group to Ocamora please contact Diane Haug, Executive Director at connect@ocamora.org.

Guest Lodging

Ocamora’s home-like ranch is situated in a beautiful and remote natural setting. There are several lodging options: Cloisters Rooms or Orchard Rooms, Orchard Cabins, Orchard Yurts, or Orchard Camping. Each space has its own unique, comfortably rustic charm. Guests who have come repeatedly like to stay in different spaces for the varied experience. Please note that bathroom facilities are shared and include a solar wash house and outhouses in the orchard.

For Retreat Rates including Ocamora Guest Lodging options, you must contact your Retreat Leader directly for this information. Ocamora staff will not have this information for you.

What to Pack and Helpful Information

Ocamora is located at 7500 feet on the northeastern slope of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. At that elevation, guests describe a felt sense of sky touching earth. Weather can range from calm / gentle to the heroically dramatic all within the same day. The climate in this part of New Mexico typically provides 340 sunny days per year on average. Summer temperatures range from 75-85 degrees/ the average rainfall is 15-25 inches—much of it coming in dramatic thunder and lightning during late July and August afternoons. There are often perfect conditions for rainbows. Please do check the weather before leaving home (see Ocate, NM)
The atmosphere is country casual so please dress for your comfort. Clothing you’ll potentially need include: long- sleeved and short-sleeved summer shirts or tops, light daytime attire, slacks or jeans for chilly evenings or time out on the land, bathing suit (hot tub), rain jacket, warm sweater/jacket /shawl, warm beanie for our delightfully cool summer evenings, a sunhat, and sunglasses. Unless you have a “special” pillow, there is no need to bring bedding if not tent camping.

It’s a good idea to bring comfortable walking or running shoes for light hiking or meandering. Slip on shoes / sandals can be convenient for trips to the outhouse, shower or hot tub. Slippers or heavy socks are appropriate for wearing in the Meditation Hall, as we require leaving outdoor shoes at the threshold entry.

Ocamora is in a remote setting. Shopping of any kind is limited and at least an hour away. Please bring any prescription or over-the-counter medications you might need, personal care products, toothbrush/paste, a travel alarm clock, flashlight or headlamp, earplugs, eyeshades, water bottle, personal thermal cup, and light day pack or fanny pack if possible. Some people also enjoy having lightweight binoculars, personal journals, cameras, and sketchbooks. Basic art supplies are available onsite. It is also helpful to have extra cash or checks for optional massage (if available), greeting cards, or end-of-retreat kitchen gratuities.

Ocamora does have a well stocked first aid kit on hand as well as a range of natural remedies for insect protection / bites, sun protection, electrolytes for rehydration, etc. Extra flashlights, rain ponchos and umbrellas are available to borrow. We also provide a guest refrigerator in the Cloisters kitchen for any extra food items you might have with you. With so much wildlife we greatly discourage guests from having food in their rooms.

Please DO NOT bring or use psychoactive substances during your stay at Ocamora. As fire danger is a constant concern we discourage the use of candles in guest rooms. Supervised fire building is restricted to the Cloisters fireplace / hearth––but only at the direction of Retreat Leaders or Retreat Manager. Ocamora is a smoke-free zone.
Please be aware of changing public health concerns. Depending on conditions Ocamora management may ask you to do pre-testing for Covid, flu, or other respiratory issues prior to travel.

Cell / Internet / Phone Messages

Please note that cell phone reception is somewhat limited in the Ocate area. Verizon tends to have the strongest signal, other carriers less so. Even when cell reception is available we greatly discourage the frequent use of cell phones and laptops during the retreat. If calls are necessary, as a courtesy we ask that you make them away from other guests. We hope to offer you the gift of ‘unplugging’ from business-as-usual during your stay.
Wireless internet is available in the communal spaces but not in guest rooms. No password is required. The Pavilion or large dining hall is often used as a hotspot and charging station for our yurt guests with no electrical outlets available in their private spaces.
It is very important that you have a cell number for your Retreat Leader / Assistant before you leave home. Travel plans can change unexpectedly and it is important for them to know of any delays or obstacles.
In case you need to be contacted during your retreat please leave the following number for your family and friends: 575 666-2389. Calls will be picked up by the Ocamora answering machine and messages will be delivered to you as soon as possible.

Notice: Ocamora is private property; no public parking or camping is permitted anywhere at any time on the 285 acres.
