Program Description:

COMING BACK TO LIFE is modeled after the legendary `Insight and Opening' retreats led over the last fifteen years by Stanislav Grof, MD and Jack Kornfield. These six-day retreats introduced thousands of people to the complementary nature of spiritual practice and deep psychological exploration. During this retreat we will make creative use of the Buddhist practice of mindfulness, depth psychology, and modern consciousness research to explore and enhance our human condition. This combination of methods has proven especially effective in facilitating emotional healing, as well as evoking a new sense of self and interconnection with nature and the sacred. This retreat includes Buddhist meditation practice, Grof Holotropic Breathwork, guided meditations, and integrative tools such as art and writing. The talks and discussions will present both traditional Buddhist views of self and reality, as well as information from evolutionary biology and psychology.

Program Description:

This weeklong retreat is a holistic experience that provides participants with a very practical tool - a more conscious use of language - to improve understanding of self and others. Ordinary language is very black and white. Built on dualistic distinctions (e.g. good / bad, right / wrong, etc), these judgments stimulate fear - which then leads to the human fight / flight response. As a result, we tend to hide who we are, defend ourselves, and fight to be `right'. Such behaviors can make it challenging to have successful and lasting relationships. With the practice of `Percept Language' - a more conscious way of using language - one accepts that there is more than one way of perceiving things; there is a continual awareness that everyone creates meaning differently. This understanding allows one to leave behind conflict, reactivity, stress, and need to control others. As a result one experiences greater choice, clarity, confidence, and ease in relationship.

To integrate is `to make whole'. The value of any deep therapeutic work is, in part, dependent on our ability to reflect on and work with the material we are being offered. During this retreat we will explore the theme of integration from both a personal and professional perspective. In addition to using Grof Holotropic Breathwork and psychodramatic action methods, participants will be introduced to a variety of tools useful in exploring the themes / issues / insights/ motifs that have emerged during their work. Those modalities will include meditation, journal writing, dream work, movement, guided time in nature, art, and sacred ritual. This retreat will be highly experiential and invite participants into the realm of creative self-expression.

Program Description:*

This land-based retreat offers a return to natural rhythms and a return to our own inner landscapes. Recognizing the time-honored need for quieting the mind, it offers a safe and supportive setting for reconnecting with the inherent intelligence of the body, psyche and spirit. This retreat will incorporate the powerful practices of both Grof Holotropic Breathwork and the time-honored shamanic journey in which we will seek out the healing influences of animal and spirit guides and cultivate the power of inner vision. Our deep journey experiences will be supported and enriched through the use of council, mindfulness practice, self-expression through art and writing, guided time in nature, and sacred ritual. The intention is to listen to the subtle wisdom of Spirit, awaken our creative spark, and discover ways to embody this inner knowledge in everyday life. This retreat will be of value to those interested in personal regeneration, enhanced creativity, and wellness, and heightened spiritual awareness. It is an excellent adjunct to therapy, as well as a powerful method of self-care for helping professionals. Theoretical material related to the psychotherapeutic application of both the `transpersonal' perspective and shamanic worldview will be included.
